“Writer/Director Doug Sakmann (Punk Rock Holocaust) just sent word on his latest project, a zombie comedy (based on an upcoming book) he’s comparing to the likes of Friday Night Lights and Shaun of the Dead called Play Dead. The project is currently in production and Doug was kind enough to send over a slew of images and an exclusive behind-the-scenes clip from the making of video which is directed by Joe Frantz (MTV’s Jackass, Viva La Bam and Bam’s Unholy Union), all of which you can check out after the break.

In the exclusive clip below, director Doug Sakmann explains how to make a horse corpse using animal parts from the Asian market for one of the key scenes in the movie as actress Kate Boyer (who is a vegan) looks on.”

Everyone loves cheerleaders, and of course, it wouldn’t be a sports movie without them! Check out some of the Cheerleader tryouts for Play Dead, featuring (in order of appearance) Jessica Cnzop, Catrina Knightess, Kim Reo, Carmella Hayslett, Heather Doyle, Larry Kwartowitz and Catlin Riley! Everyone made the cut, but Larry and Catlin were not available on the day of the shoot!

When a high school football team is murdered by a rival team, a local witch brings the dead players back to life as zombies so they can trounce their rivals in one last game and save their own souls….

Directed and produced by Doug Sakmann in association with Backseat Conceptions, based on a novel by Ryan Brown. The novel ‘Play Dead’ is to be released by Simon and Schuster nationwide on May 4th 2010.
